The Film Studies Minor at the University of Central Oklahoma helps students to pursue a coordinated, structured plan of study within one of the most important and influential areas of contemporary culture: FILM. Today, the moving image dominates every aspect of life from entertainment and leisure, to education and research, to business and politics. In order to insure that our students become fully literate in the visual culture of the twenty-first century, and to insure a proper understanding of the cinema's legacy in the twentieth-century-the period of its emergence and consolidation-the Film Studies Minor at UCO emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of the film medium. Courses address the interlocking concerns of history, aesthetics, theory and criticism, as well as the social and cultural impact of films' production, exhibition and reception. UCO Film Studies is proud to work with the deadCENTER Film Festival in expanding the recognition of film as a vital medium for communication, entertainment, and artistic expression.
